Updates ||

Ok sooo today was my first day of work experience! Don't worry I won't do this for every day haha, probably just this one 'cause I feel like it. X3

Anyway, so I got off the bus and found Bird & Carter easily enough, and when I walked in there was this man behind the deli counter and he said "Hannah??". I said, "Well, I'm Sarah actually xD" and he was like "Oh right yes!" That was Joff (I think he's Mr Bird but all the staff there call him Joff) and he's the joint boss person. The other owner is called Annie who I've met before, but it turned out that she'd gone on holiday for the week in France. I got shown round the place (past the deli counters there's some tables in another room with mirrors on the walls, and then up this really tight staircase there's some more tables. Then there's a loo and a kitchen about the size of my bedroom with a dishwasher in it, and a milk dispenser which I found out later is called 'the cow' lol XD).
Then I got shown how to carry a tray; you can't just hold it with two hands but it has this weird lever thing which you hold on to with two fingers, but the thing doesn't tip if you have the drink/plate in the middle of the tray. I practiced walking around with it with a glass of water on the tray, and then one of the older girls said to me "Can you run this capuccino upstairs?" (some customers had started to come in by now). I was like "Um....ok :'''''''DD", and went up the stairs uber slow because I so afraid of dropping it, that would have just been so crap xD.
It's kind of a little vague what else I did in the morning, everyone said it was surprisingly busy for a Monday, but apart from taking a few drinks to people I sort of stood like a lemon for a bit. I went to fill a milk jug up from 'the cow' a couple of times but apart from that I didn't really know what to do for myself, like how it is when you're new somewhere and don't really know the system...then when I was standing by the counter Joff said randomly "Can you shop?" and sent me with some money on an errand to M&S to get some more of a type of plate xDD I got a few funny looks in M&S because I'd taken the original plate with me to know what sort to get, and bought as many as I could carry which was about 6 because I'm so weak rofl. I can't really remember after that except later in the morning he sent me on another errand, this time to the Post Office to change £70 in to change for the till, and also with this seriously heavy bin liner full of laundry to take to the laundrette. I know I may sound sort of slave-like at this point but I actually didn't mind at all, I'd rather be doing something over nothing |D (TOTALLY UNRELATED: Oooohh there's a really pretty rainbow outside my window atm...)
Anyway, when I got back from the second errand it was about 12ish and a lot busier, more staff had arrived too and they all seem very nice, though a lot older than me. I helped one of the girls, Elle, put the change in the till, brought one or two customers their drinks and then got shown how the dishwasher works upstairs in the kitchen. It looked really hard at first because we don't have a dishwasher at home, but once I'd been shown how to do it I figured it was actually pretty simple. I stayed in the kitchen a lot of the time which I actually didn't mind, I felt I had more to do in there than being downstairs taking orders from the customers which seemed a lot more hectic (though apparently I'm going to be doing more of that tomorrow). So most of the day my routine was stacking the dishwasher and then running the clean crockery downstairs (about 15 pieces on a tray at a time now - I'd got used to it cx) stacking it behind the deli till by the door, and then usually while I was down there one of the girls would ask me to take something to a customer, which I would do and get cutlery for them etc if they wanted it.
At about 2 the business died down a little so I had my lunch break, and basically for lunch I could get anything from the deli for free n_n So I chose a ham, cheese, onion and olive panini and this orange and passionfruit drink, which was lovely. It was really nice to sit down, my legs kind of ached lol. After that I cleaned some of the mirrors and wiped the tables, and then Joff showed me how prepare this massive salmson that's going to be served tomorrow. And thennnnn..I cleaned up a bit more and loaded the dishwasher, and sat down in the mirror room because there were hardly any customers, and had a hot chocolate which I'd been dying to have all day xD
After I'd taken the mug upstairs to be washed, another girl asked me to help her with filling up the olive bowls and pots of sun dired tomatoes and things. After that it was about 4, so I said goodbye to the others and got a small tip for some reason, but I'm not complaining XD
I crossed the market square and waited at the bus stop, but it had started to rain and was absolutely freeeezing because I was wearing leggings instead of jeans (will probably wear jeans tomorrow though, if it rains again). When the bus came finally I was surprised to see another girl from my year there, who's at Spire FM for her work experience ^^. but she also said that a boy in our year has swine flu apparently D:, but it's ok because everyone in my year has officially left the school now for work experience. I wish I knew who it was though, thankfully the virus is still in its mild form here @__@
Anywho, by the time I got home it was tipping it down but I'd brought my umbrella so that was ok.

First day is always the worst I think, but I guess I was just being shown the ropes today. I really like to interact with the public, which I'm apparently doing tomorrow so that should be fun ^^
I still get a bit nervous though in case I make a mistake (hopefully not); but you can wish me luck for the next 2 weeks C;
